In 2010 UFC president Dana White famously said, One thing I’m guaranteed every morning when I wake up in the morning is that bad s*** is going to happen.” Even with that being the case, UFC 223 is an unprecedented cluster.
Anthony Ferguson tripped on a cable and tore a ligament in his knee. Just six days out featherweight Max Holloway agreed to step up, but he was coming off a leg injury and his weight was so high that his nutrition coach said it would be the second largest cut he ever supervised.
Then Conor McGregor, Artem Lobov, and a gaggle of hangers-on attacked a fighter bus with Khabib Nurmagomedov. They broke windows and the flying glass took two fighters out. Lobov was removed from his fight due to his participation in the crime.
And now Holloway has been declared medically unfit to fight by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Max wants to keep pushing and is close but the doctors came up and just stopped it,” said a member of Holloway’s team to Ariel Helwani. “Doctors stopped it not us. Max was going.

Former UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis lost his opponent Michael Chiesa, when the latter was cut by flying glass.
Pettis stepped on the scale at 155.2, just over the mark for a title bout, but he was not provided an opportunity to weigh in again. Pettis was apparently offered a fight vs. Nurmagomedov, but reportedly wanted too much money.
Then Paul Felder was offered, but the NYSAC turned it down, due to his lack of appearance in the UFC’s official rankings.
Finally Al Iaquinta stepped up, and the event continues with two title fights. This is the faceoff at the ceremonial weigh-ins.
Ferguson will remain the interim champion and #1 contender. And there is no question what so ever, Conor McGregor is no longer the lightweight champion of the world.
