In the main event of UFC on FOX 20, Valentina Shevchenko won a unanimous decision over former champion Holly Holm and cemented herself as one of the top contenders for the women’s bantamweight championship.

This was supposed to be The Holly Holm Show, a showcase fight to get the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion right back into title contention.

Instead, it turned into Valentina Shevchenko’s big night. Shevchenko imposed her will on a flat Holm on Saturday night in the main event of UFC on FOX 20, earning a unanimous decision in Chicago.

The judges’ scores at United Center were 49-46 across the board.

About Holly Holm

TRAINING: It’s hard to describe a typical training day. I don’t feel like any of them are “typical.” Each day presents its own challenges. I run five days a week, spar twice a week, grapple 2-3 times per week and wrestle two times a week. Maybe some strength and conditioning in there somewhere depending on the day and I also do mitt work 3-4 times a week.

When and why did you start training for fighting? When I was 16, I liked cardio kickboxing for the workout. I did that for about a year and got very intrigued watching the sparring classes at the same gym (Winkeljohn’s Kickboxing). I started sparring and asked Mr. Winkeljohn to let me know when he thought I was ready to compete. I trained for a bit and had my first fight at 18 and I fell in love with the sport.

More About Valentina Shevchenko

Thoughts on opponent, Holly Holm? Holly is a sportsman and this will be a good fight. Never before have there been two women strikers like this matched.

TRAINING: My days leading up to this fight start early in the morning. Each day increases in intensity as we are now growing closer to the fight. During the preparation, we are working on striking and grappling every day. In the afternoon, I do additional conditioning outdoors. Some days I do grueling conditioning in nature outside of the gym.
