Paul Heyman is the architect of ECW, best friend and manager to Brock Lesnar in both the pro rasslin and MMA worlds, once managed three WWE champions in a row, owns the ad agency of record for THQ video games, saved TUF Brazil 3, and much more. Heyman recently appeared on professional wrestler Steve Austin’s podcast, and discussed CM Punk’s foray into MMA. Heyman is a long-time mentor of Punk’s, and discussed his motivations.

“I don’t think money is the motivating factor in CM Punk’s life whatsoever,” said Heyman, as transcribed by Damon Martin for FOX Sports. “I think it’s the challenge to do this. This is something he’s been eyeballing since he was a kid, and I think he looks back and he probably regrets not getting into it five or six years earlier, but this was the time to pull the trigger on it.”

“I think he firmly believes he is either going to step in that Octagon and shock everybody by beating somebody’s ass, or he’s going to get punched in the face and knocked out or tapped out and beat up, and I think that he’s very accepting of the fact that that’s a possibility.”

“He’s man enough to walk in there and take his chances.”

It is not yet known who or when Punk will be taking his chances with, but UFC president Dana White has said it will against someone of roughly similar experience.
