Hendricks heading to Jackson-Wink
Hendricks’ fans were delighted to hear that training for his latest fight includes time at arguably the greatest team in the sport, Jackson-Wink MMA.

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks’ career is a hot mess. Heading into a title fight with division G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre in 2013 he was 15-1, on a long run of wins that included Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Martin Kampmann, and Carlos Condit. ‘Bigg Rigg’ lost a highly controversial split decision to GSP, but when St-Pierre took a break from fighting, Hendricks beat Robbie Lawler for the vacant title, and then lost the rematch via split decision. Given the two split decisions in three fights, was extremely close to the best in the world.
Hendricks is 2-4 since. And he cannot make weight.
Hendricks missed weight his final two fights at welterweight, losses to Kelvin Gastelum and Neil Magny. He then moved up to middleweight and look impressive defeating Hector Lombard in his debut at 185. Next fight, however, was a return to form – he missed weight and got knocked out by Tim Boetsch.
Part of the issue may be a lack of structure. Hendricks had a unique relationship with Team Takedown, where early in his career they provided him with a living wage and full coaching staff and facility, in exchange for a larger percentage of his income should he do well. In late in 2015 he left without bitterness but is 1-4 since. It’s possible that Hendricks is the type of athlete who thrives in a well-structured, team environment.
Thus his fans were delighted to hear that training for his latest fight includes time at arguably the greatest team in the sport, Jackson-Wink MMA, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
