On “UFC Tonight” and Twitter last night, Ariel Helwani provided background on the recently announced fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Ufc on Fuel 2 in Swden on April 14, 2012.
The UFC’s plan was to offer Rashad Evans the next shot at current champion Jon Jones, if Evans defeated Phil Davis at UFC On Fox 2. The Hendo vs. Nogueira winner would next in line for a title shot against the winner of Evans vs. Jones.
Hendo apparently turned down what would be a very winnable fight that would land him a title fight, presumably because he thinks he can get it straight way.
Also reported, @danawhite said that Dan Henderson turned down a fight against Lil’ Nog, so they then decided to book Nog-Gustafsson …
.. the original plan was if Evans beat Davis, he would face Jones. The winner of Hendo/Nog would then fight for the #1 contender. …
… Now, since Hendo turned down the Nog fight, his status is unclear. #ufctonight
