Hector Lombard wants to fight… everyone

“I think that I’m the best at, you know at all in the 170lbs division at every area. Not only better than him, I’m better than everyone up there, but that’s my opinion.”

Hector Lombard recently spoke with Australia’s ace Submission Radio, and named a long list of people he wants to fight. The former Cuban Olympian moved to Australia and built up a fanbase there, before moving to his current home at ATT – Coconut Creek in the USA.

“Showeather” fights Josh Burkman at UFC 182 on Jan 3 in Las Vegas, but that is far from the only fighter on his mind. His dream opponent may be unexpected.

GSP,” he said. “And like let’s suppose like if I can’t fight for the title for some reason, you know I really would love to. I know that GSP is coming out of retirement so I really would love to have a big fight between me and GSP in Australia. That would be a shocker ey?

I can take a punch and my wrestling’s improving every day. So it’s going to be very hard for him to get me down and my stand up, he’s got no chance with me. That’s for sure.

Lombard has not forgotten about Burkman however.

People say that he lost because he just wanted to get in the UFC and if he would have kept winning he would have never had the opportunity to fight for the UFC, but he’s another former champion that I’m gonna beat,” said Lombard. “And I’m really looking forward to it.

I know I beat two former Strikeforce champions. This is gonna be the second WSOF champion that I beat, because you know the first one was Palhares and he’s going to be the second one.

After the Burkman fight, Lombard wants Condit or Matt Brown

I would just love to fight after my next fight maybe Carlos Condit or somebody,” said Lombard. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of Matt Brown. He disappeared, and now he got a fight. But before he got a fight scheduled, I was on Twitter all the time calling him out and he never answered.

When asked if he would prefer to next fight the winner of Brown vs. Saffadine or the winner of Woodley vs. Gastelum, Lombard basically replied “yes.”

I would like to fight them all,” he said. “To be honest, I don’t need to choose fights. You know I’m the one who called them out. They don’t answer me. They just get into fights with somebody else. They want me to get in order or something, but they just talk, talk, talk, but they don’t walk the walk.”

Lombard thinks his fellow ATT fighter Robbie Lawler will beat Johny Hendricks, and he wants to fight Lawler, too.

I mean like I said before, you know it’s about you proving your skills and you proving the best,” he said. “It’s not about, you’re gonna go over there and kill your friend, or kill your mate. You’re just gonna go over there and prove like who is best. And if you want to be the champion, I would give you the chance. So I mean like we all want the same thing. You can’t be mad at the person that wants the very same thing that you want.”

Lombard does not lack confidence.

I think that I’m the best at, you know at all in the 170lbs division at every area,” he said. “Not only better than [Burkman], I’m better than everyone up there, but that’s my opinion.

But he added that his overconfidence is a thing of the past.

That’s what’s been one of my issues in the past – I’m too over confident sometimes and that kinda like lead me to, not bad performances, but not the best performance,” he said. “I’m not gonna be overconfident anymore. I mean it happened to me in a couple of fights down in the past, but I’m not going to be overconfident for this one. That’s for sure.
