Gustafsson heading to Alliance for three months, will develop footwork

Top UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson told Sweden’s Expressen he is moving his camp back to Alliance MMA in San Diego for three months, and he has a very specific skill set he will be developing.

As Dominick Cruz is training at Alliance in San Diego, so I’ll learn some of his footwork there. I’m pretty sure I have the fastest footwork in the division.”

Gustafsson has now lost three of his last four, and cited a lack of will in the split decision loss to Daniel Cormier for the UFC championship.

I got split decision against ‘DC’ without having that real will,” he said. “So what if I can get the will back.

‘The Mauler’ first went to Alliance to train following his loss to Phil Davis in April of 2010. There the two trained together.

Gustafsson regularly visits Alliance as part of his camps, which are based around Sweden’s Allstars Training Center. But the Alliance stints have been less frequent recently. He will be moving there with his girlfriend Moa for three months, and they will re evaluate at that point.
