GSP tears knee in training, faces surgery in a few days

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is on indefinite leave from competition. He has said several times that he wants to see more stringent drug testing in the sport before he returns. UFC president Dana White has said several times that GSP will be back.

Regardless of who is correct, it is not happening any time soon – GSP announced via Social Networks that he has again injured his knee, and again will need surgery.

“Tore my left ACL in training,” he tweeted. “Surgery in a few days. Rehab, pain, hard work, no shortcuts- I’ll soon be back at 100%. Thanks for the support.”

St-Pierre posted further details on Facebook.

“Just got confirmation that I tore my left knee ACL during training this week,” he said. “Surgery in a few days and rehab starts right away. We all face challenges in our lives and I know only one way to take this one: Pain, hard work, no shortcuts and I will soon be back at 100%. Stay tuned and thanks for your amazing support, as always.”

St-Pierre’s last knee injury, a torn MCL back in October 2011, kept him out of action for 13 months.
