UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has agreed to defend his title vs. returning welterweight G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre. UFC president Dana White has said the ideal date would be UFC 213 on July 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Late in March on his Believe You Me podcast, Bisping said St-Pierre had to commit to a date or the title shot could go elsewhere.

“I call the shots,” said the champ. “Without sounding like an a**hole, it’s my belt. I’m the champion and I’m not willing to sit around until September or October.”

Now in a message on his social network, GSP says Bisping will, in fact, have to wait around not just until September and October, but through the two months – the Canadian says he is free to fight, after October.

Mr. Bisping, I clear my entire schedule to get ready for training camp after the summer,” said St-Pierre. “So, I can fight you any time after October, you pick the date. Let’s get it on!”

Bisping now has the option to fight #1 contender Yoel Romero over the summer, or wait a season and fight St-Pierre in the fall. The latter choice is bigger money and, given the size difference and GSP’s accumulation of rust since 2013, an easier fight. The smart decision is to complain loudly, and wait.

Bisping is smart.
