UFC welterweight G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre is widely believed to have a plan. First, win the middleweight title vs. Michael Bisping at UFC 217 on November 4. Then beat welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. And lastly challenge lightweight champion Conor McGregor in a superfight. Under this fanciful scenario, he would then retire as undisputed G.O.A.T. The Woodley part could be bypassed too.

However, during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, GSP said as he has consistently that the focus is all on Bisping, and that he is next contractually obligated to fight interim champ Robert Whittaker.

“I don’t look to set up a fight with Conor, said St-Pierre, as transcribed by Duane Finley for FloCombat. I’m happy for Conor. He made a lot of money and I think he deserved it. He raised the bar for everybody. He’s the most charismatic guy in MMA right now, the one who sells the most. I am happy for him. Everything he did, he deserve, he work hard for it.

I’m focusing on Michael Bisping. We’re in different weight class. I’m focusing on Michael Bisping, one step at a time, and you never know what’s going to happen in MMA, you know? I’m not afraid of nobody. I’m very confident in my skill and what I can bring the table, but at the same time, I focus on one step at a time… what is ahead of me. I made the mistake in the past of overthinking stuff, and when you do that, things [don ‘t] happen the way you want and you waste energy, I think.

Regardless of how credible or not GSP’s McGregor denial is, it is unequivocal that you don’t know what’s going to happen in mixed martial arts.
