While everyone knows Phil Davis vs. Forrest Griffin wasn’t the first option for UFC 155, it turns out the bout wasn’t the second option either.

That’s according to recent UFC Light Heavyweight title challenger Vitor Belfort, who tells the Brazilian site UOL that Griffin turned down a bout against him after Chael Sonnen pulled out of their originally scheduled UFC 155 fight to coach against Jon Jones for The Ultimate Fighter season 17.

“I met with Forrest and he told me that he volunteered for a list of six names and mine was the first. He said he would face any of them except me. It’s good to have this kind of recognition. I am here to serve the company.”
