Gonzalez vs. Calvillo briefly in jeopardy over breast implants, now on
Things have gotten bizarre in Buffalo.

It was great when New York became the last state in North America to allow mixed martial arts. However, that meant that the commission was green, and perhaps not ready for primetime.
They just got fooled by Daniel Cormier using a trick that hasn’t worked since the 1990s.
And then Pearl Gonzalez vs. Cynthia Calvillo was in jeopardy over breast implants.
I'm told the Calvillo-Gonzalez has been canceled. Per NYSAC, female fighters are not allowed to have implants, thus ruling out Gonzalez.

Of course, this isn't a new development so one wonders why no one brought this up earlier. Calvillo is not happy, putting it mildly.

Calvillo just told me she is hopeful they will overturn this but no word that's actually happened just yet.

Judy asked the NYSAC head about Gonzalez. "I don't want to talk about that right now," he said.

FWIW, UFC officials won't officially confirm the Gonzalez-Calvillo fight is off. They are trying to save it. Some are hopeful.

Pearl Gonzalez passed all of her medicals and made weight, and then the NYSAC broke news to her. Female fighters with breast implants have fought all over the world, at the highest levels. Female UFC fighters with breast implants have fought in New York before.
The NYSAC egregiously failed at the weigh-ins, but their second failure was remedied. Upon further review, including conversations with multiple physicians, the commission concluded that it was safe for Gonzalez to compete.
To make up for the hassle she endured, follow Pearl Gonzales on Instagram…
