GLORY Kickboxing comes to Bulgaria for the very first time with GLORY 89 taking place at the Burgas Arena in the beautiful coastal town of Burgas on October 7.
Headlining the card will be a title clash between the number one featherweight on the planet today Petchpanomrung Kiatmoo9 (168-39-3, 27 KO) and top Spanish star David Mejia (61-15, 19 KO). This contest replaces the previously announced title fight between Donovan Wisse and Michael Boapeah after the champ was forced to postpone the fight due to medical reasons.
“Petch” is the reigning and defending GLORY featherweight champion and has held onto that crown since winning it in 2018. With six defenses to his name and wins over the likes of Robin van Roosmalen, Abraham Vidales and Ahmad Chikh Mousa, the Thai fighter has firmly cemented himself as the king of the division.
But now he goes up against David Mejia, a rising Spanish-Colombian star who recently climbed up the world rankings thanks to performances across Europe and Asia. These wins have now earned him a shot in GLORY and a chance to become GLORY featherweight champion and the world No. 1.
In the co-main event, Bulgaria’s very own Stoyan Koprivlenski (18-6, 6 KO) takes on Romania’s Sorin Caliniuc (11-1) in an exciting local derby between the two neighboring nations. A former title challenger, Koprivlenski will lead the way for Bulgarian fighters on what is GLORY’s debut in his homeland.
A special heavyweight qualifier for the massive end of year GLORY grand prix will also feature as Levi Rigters (14-1, 6 KO) makes his much-anticipated return to action against the giant Martin Terpstra (26-6, 13 KO). The winner punches his ticket into the $500,000 eight-man, one-night tournament.
The always exciting Luis Tavares (63-9, 21 KO) collides with the returning Bogdan Stoica (57-13, 40 KO) in a high-quality light heavyweight clash that is sure to provide a highlight reel moment.
And, if that wasn’t enough, the rest of the card will be stacked with Bulgaria vs. the world contests. These will include Aleksandar Petrov (34-6) against Austria’s Karim Mabrouk (36-5-1), Eduard Aleksanyan (18-4, 5 KO) facing undefeated Moroccan Mohammed Touchassie (14-0, 11 KO), Teodor Hristov (14-3, 7 KO) clashing with Romania’s Eduard Gafencu (17-4, 11 KO), and Dragomir Petrov (14-3, 7 KO) taking on ranked German Chris Wunn (35-5-1, 14 KO).
GLORY 89 will be held in conjunction with the city of Burgas and the Bulgarian Fight Agency, who will provide a four-fight undercard featuring some of the best rising local talent.
