Gil: Win over Pettis gets me on GOAT list
Gil Melendez: “I want it so bad. And if I can win that belt, I think that would put me up for one of the greatest of all time in this sport.”
UFC light weight Gil Melendez spoke recently with Sherdog, ahead of his title fight with champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 181 on Saturday. Melendez argued that with a win over Pettus, he will be on of the G.O.A.T.S.
I feel like I’ve accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the sport, except winning the most prestigious title out there, and that’s the UFC belt,” said Melendez. “I can see it from here and, you know, I want it so bad. And if I can win that belt, I think that would put me up for one of the greatest of all time in this sport. If you really look back at what I’ve done in the history… So, I’ll be rolling the dice a little bit more and really taking some gambles, and trying to go for it in this one.
It is not clear whether Melendez is talking about being among the greatest in lightweight division division, or if he talking Fedor Emelianenko and Anderson Silva territory.
