A middleweight title fight between Gegard Mousasi and John Salter will headline Bellator 264, on August 13. at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The news was first reported by MMAJunkie.

Gegard Mousasi will defend his middleweight title at Bellator 264

It will be the first fight of the year for Mousasi (47-7-2 MMA, 5-1 BMMA). His most recent bout came at Bellator 250 in October 2020, when he defeated Douglas Lima for the vacant middleweight title. The thrown was left vacated by Rafael Lovato, Jr. after the submission star was forced to put his career on hold indefinitely after being diagnosed with the brain condition cavernoma.

Salter (18-4 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) is currently on a three-fight win streak. Scoring a pair of submissions over Andrew Kapel and Chidi Njokuani, and a unanimous decision against Costello van Steenis. The streak comes after Lovato, Jr. a seven-fight win streak for the Tennessee native in 2018.
