One of the most anticipated fights at UFC 205, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum was stolen from the fans, and Cerrone, when Gastelum so completely missed weight that he never bothered weighing in. It was the third time Gastelum had failed to make the welterweight mark.

UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy was not impressed.

“That is a lazy disrespectful a**hole that’s doing that,” said Kennedy.
It’s disrespectful to your opponent, it’s disrespectful to the fan. That’s Kelvin Gastelum and Thiago saying, ‘I don’t care about the fans’. That’s what they’re doing. They don’t care about the sport, they don’t care about their integrity – because that’s what it is.

“I signed a contract that on this day, this Friday, I will step on the scale and weigh ‘this’. That’s what it says in the contract – and in return you’ll pay me. That’s the point in being a prize fighter. So now they’re breaking their word, they’re breaking their contract and they’re disrespecting their opponent – but worst of all, they’re saying ‘f*** you’ to the fans.”

UFC president Dana White was not impressed.

“I’ll never let him fight at 170 again,” said the boss.

And the New York State Athletic Commission was not impressed. They have suspended Gastelum for six months because he never even bothered to fail on the scale.

Gastelum’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that an appeal is planned. Assuming it is unsuccessful, Gastelum will not fight until mid-May of 2017. And it will be at middleweight.
