Former WWE champion CM Punk proved to be a bust in mixed martial arts. However, his opponent, Mickey Gall appears so far to be a fun addition the league, despite his lack of experience relative to the rest of the roster
UFC president Dana White was seated cageside at Gall’s pro debut, and when Gall called out CM Punk, White said sure. Gall was given a fight on the under undercard of UFC Fight Night 82, presumably to see if he could handle the big show jitters. Gall won that in 45 seconds. Then Gall beat CM Punk in 2:14 at UFC 203.
Gall’s first call out was a success, so he did it again, looking for a fight with fellow Lookin’ For A Fight find lightweight ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt.
“This might sound like a gimmicky fight but I’m no gimmick,” said Gall immediately after beating Punk, as transcribed by Jonathan Bradley for FOX Sports. “I’m for real. I’m not going f***ing anywhere.”
I want ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt next. I think that kid’s corny. I’m going to punch the spikes out of his hair … Hey, they say we’re ‘Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight’ young guns, let us bang out. They say guys like us want the protection — f*** that, I want war!
Northcutt appeared on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, and accepted, although the fight may have to wait until December as Northcutt is currently suffering from a Staph infection. Northcutt also started some trash talk, arguing that Gall’s opponents were the equivalent of fighting your dad, who doesn’t train much.
Northcutt also expressed formal Texas reservations about some language used by the New Jersey native Gall.
“I think a step too far was when he’s cussing and sending the curse words out there,” said Northcutt. “I don’t know. He said that’s how he gets people’s attention, but I don’t know what people’s attention he’s trying to get if he’s cussing out there. Is it the families? The moms? The little kids that are watching? I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem very appropriate.”
Yes, let’s think about the children.
And with that out of the way, let’s return to the fight.
Gall is apparently a fan of professional wrestling, where gimmick matches abound. Popular ones include the Retirement match, Loser Leaves Town match, Do or Die match, and the Luchas de Apuestas match in which the bet can be the loser shaving his head.

Gall’s last opponent went through it, so why not his next one?
Sage Northcutt is a highly promoted figure in the sport, one of just a handful of UFC fighters with a direct Reebok sponsorship. If Gall beats him, after just three amateur fights and four pro fights, he could be a kind of a star.
