Also featured on the main card of UFC 203 was a welterweight between Mickey Gall and former WWE champion ‘CM Punk’ (Phil Brooks) who was also making his mixed martial arts debut.
When it finally came time to fight, CM Punk was everything you’d expect from a professional wrestler who stepped into the Octagon with absolutely no fighting or martial arts experience.
Punk, the wrestling handle for the Chicagoan legally known as Phil Brooks, was manhandled by Mickey Gall in a much-hyped matchup on Saturday night at UFC 203 in Cleveland. Gall, a New Jersey native in his third professional fight, made short work of Punk before finishing him with a rear-naked choke at 2:14 of the opening round in a welterweight matchup.
“People might think this is a gimmicky fight,” said Gall (2-0). “I’m not a gimmick, I’m not f**king going anywhere.”
