An injury suffered in training forced highly touted lightweight prospect Willamy “Chiquerim” Freire to withdraw from a planned contest with Thiago Tavares at UFC on Versus 2, which takes place Aug. 1 at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City.
MMAjunkie.com confirmed with sources close to the fight that a knee injury is the culprit.
According to sources close to the event, the UFC is currently searching for a replacement opponent, though with a little more than a week until the fight, it’s certain whether a new foe will be secured.
