Frankie Edgar will drop to 135, for a title shot
Frankie Edgar will drop to 135, IF …

In the entire history of the UFC, only two men have ever held titles in two weight divisions. Randy Couture held the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles. BJ Penn held the welterweight and light belts.
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar gave it a shot, dropping to featherweight, but coming up short vs. Jose Aldo twice. Edgar challenged Aldo for his belt at UFC 156 on February 2, 2013. And the pair fought for the interim title at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016, when new champion Conor McGregor was removed from the event for failing to meet media duties.
Edgar recently spoke with Ariel Helwani, at Sal’s Pizza, which has long been owned by famed coach Mark Henry, and said he would consider a title shot at bantamweight.
The 135 belt is currently held by Dominick Cruz.
I do think about it now, said Edgar to Helwani, as transcribed by BJPenn.com. But I kind of want to go down for the title… only for the title.
I don’t think I’d want to cut to ’35 just to fight anybody. I’ll cut to ’35 for the title and take it from there.
Right now I’m about 162. It’ll be harder [to make bantamweight]. It’d be tough. I wrestled at 135 in my senior year of high school. I’d obviously be much better at it now, I’d be more knowledgeable about how to get down, and I’d use my nutritionist and everything. I’d do it the right way. I could make the weight, it’d just suck a little bit, and I can beat guys [at featherweight] without it sucking. But if I can go down for the title, that’s cool.
A fight between Edgar and Cruz would be a dream come true for the hardcore fanbase, so make it happen Dana White!
