While fighting in Pride over a dozen times from 03-07, Shogun was a staunch member of Chute Boxe, under Rafael Cordeiro. Shogun eventually opened his own academy in Brazil, and Cordeiro became head trainer at Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Earlier this year the two succesfully reunited, for Shogun’s ematch against Forrest Griffin at UFC 134.

However, Shogun announced that he was returning to Brazil to prepare for the Henderson fight. Cordeiro signalled there were no hard feelings.

I want to see him holding the belt again. Life is made by s and it was his and his team’s choice. God bless him and I’m OK with that …Kings MMA’s doors will always be open to Shogun, but I don’t have time to think about him as I need to get Wanderlei Silva prepared.”

However, in a post fight interview, Cordeiro sounded a more critial note.

If he wants back to the top, he need to start training … When you have a guy inside your gym, professional guys in all styles, it is easy to do the work.
