FMJ: McGregor is just blowing smoke up everyone’s @$$

Blowing smoke up the a** used to be a thing.

Native Americans used tobacco in treating various medical ailments, and by the mid 1700s, European doctors adopted the practice. It was eventually used for everything from headache to cancer but began as an attempt to resuscitate people thought to be dead, notably after a drowning. Think of it as an early defibrillator. Various means were employed including medical apparatus, like this:

By 1774, Dr. William Hawes and Dr. Thom­as Cogan had formed The Institution for Affording Immediate Relief to Persons Apparently Dead From Drowning, which eventually became the Royal Hu­mane Society. Then in 1811 it was discovered that nicotine is, in fact, toxic to the cardiac system and the practice died out.

However, the expression lives on.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor showed no interest in defending his featherweight title, and when faced with the prospect of having to give up one belt, kept 155. But he has expressed no interest in defending the lightweight belt, calling undefeated #1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov as a pull-out merchant. Notorious expressed only passing interest in fighting for the welterweight title.

What he wants is to box Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he recently got licensed as a prizefighter in California. However, in a recent interview with Elie Seckbach for FightHype.com, Mayweather was not impressed.

“Man, I don’t fight in California,” said Mayweather, as transcribed by Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting. “What did he get a license in California for?

“He’s blowing smoke up everybody’s a**. He don’t really wanna fight because I went to his boss. He don’t want to fight, he’s just doing that to keep his name alive, to stay relevant. He’s doing that to build his followers. He’s smart.”

The most interesting part of the denial is that Mayweather went to Dana White about the fight, the necessary first step.

Although Mayweather hasn’t fought outside of Nevada in over a decade, McGregor may still harbor a grudge at his fines by the Nevada State Athletic Commission over tossing a water bottle. Thus the source of the licensing in California could be that, rather than blowing smoke … somewhere.

While Mayweather started the idea in May, and at one point said “absolutely” he thought it would happen, he has of late been dismissive.

Or is he?

On a recent Instagram live, Mayweather stirred it up.

“I’m f***ing McGregor up too. Punk a** McGregor, I’m gonna slap the s*** out of McGregor when I see him.”
