UFC lightweight Kenny Florian announced on ESPN’s MMA Live last week that he had agreed to face top prospect Evan Dunham at UFC 126 on Feb. 5. According to Florian’s agent, that isn’t quite true…at least not yet.
Malki Kawa, appearing on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, said the announcement was a tad premature.
As of right now, no, he’s not fighting Dunham. I told Kenny that Evan Dunham looks like the opponent for Super Bowl weekend. It wasn’t confirmed because we didn’t know if Evan Dunham was going to be healed in time for that fight, anyway, Kawa said. Then I guess there was a report put out that Dunham was agreeing to the fight, as well. But then (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva called me and said that he’s got something else that he wants to discuss first.
While the fight isn’t quite official, Kawa did say the door isn’t closed on the bout.
Right now, it doesn’t look like he’s fighting Dunham, Kawa said. I don’t think so. I don’t know yet. I’m not sure. I’ll know, hopefully, by the end of this week.
