Florian: Northcutt could be GSP X 10

Sage Nortcutt has spent less than a minute in the Octagon, but is already garnering a remarkable share of attention. It ranges from UFC president Dana White to the average UGer, who is quite prepared to give up his super model girlfriend in exchange for being Northcutt’s official bronzer.

Retired UFC middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, and featherweight Kenny Florian, who currently works as an analyst and color commentator, discussed Northcutt recently on his podcast. It tuns out Florian really is the average UGer – married to a super model, lives in Hollywood mansion, AND he creeps on Sage Northcutt’s Intragram.

“Talk about potential,” said Florian, as transcribed by David St. Martin for MMA Fighting. “Talk about dollar signs. This kid could be Georges St-Pierre times 10. When you look at his look and the way that he fights. The explosiveness. This kid, I think he got to the state championships after only a year of wrestling in high school. He was wrestling at Texas A&M after only a couple years of wrestling. He started wrestling very late. This kid is an athlete through and through. Just look at that flip.”

“Let’s say fighting doesn’t work out, he could be a movie star,. He could be a Jean-Claude Van Damme. Maybe do it at the same time. I creeped on his Instagram after seeing that flip, just kind of going back in his history and he’s like 17 years old running up a grass hill with three tires tied to him.”

“It’s unbelievable what kind of maturity and approach that he has to this game. His father must have been a disciplinarian. Everything this guy does he does it 100 percent. Whether it’s wrestling or being a karate world champion. His sister is a karate champion. It’s in their blood. This is what they do, and now we’re getting these truly elite, world-class athletes in the sport. It really is exciting.”
