The UFC spent nine years and $2,000,000 seeking government regulation for mixed martial arts in New York. The Empire State was the last state or province in North America to regulate mixed martial arts, and it finally happened, over bizarre opposition.
On November 12 at UFC 205, the league holds its first show in New York since UFC 7 in 1995. The return will be triumphant – this is the best card in mixed martial arts history, capped by three title fights.
In the main event, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will challenge lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. If successful ‘Notorious’ will become the first fighter to hold two UFC belts at the same time. BJ Penn and Randy Couture have held two belts, but not concurrently.
