Following British Columbia’s lead, last month the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Department of Athletic Regulation became the first tribal athletic commission in North America to team up with the charitable organization Fighting Foundation to help spread brain health knowledge awareness in combat sports.
The commission unanimously voted to use and distribute the following to all fighters they regulate:
- The CTE and Concussion basics posters which Fighting Foundation co-created with the Association of Ringside Physicians; and,
- The Foundation’s ‘white belt’ brain health basics video.
The author would like to personally, and on behalf of Fighting Foundation, formally thank the Band for their leadership in taking brain health knowledge seriously in combat sports. Terrific work!
We hope to see every athletic commission involved in combat sports follow in your footsteps.
