In a bout with Masaya “J-Taro” Takita, Grabaka fighter Shigeyuki Uchiyama appeared comfortably en route to a win when over during a double leg takedown they fell through the ropes.
It was not clear how Uchiyama’s cauliflowered ear was torn off, but blood could be seen on the top and bottom ropes.
As soon as Pancrase officials identified the bloody lump on the canvas, a doctor check was called and the bout was stopped at 2:57 of Round 2.
Uchiyama was taken to hospital along with his severed ear immediately following the bout. It is not yet known if his ear can be reattached.
