Of all the MMA fighter footage in existence, there are two legendary ones that got away. One was Rickson Gracie vs. Yoji Anjo. You can read all about here. You can’t see the tape though, because Rickson has the only copy, and he’s not showing it to you.
The other was Tito Ortiz vs. Lee Murray after UFC 38 in 2002, at about 4:00 in the morning. UFC Hall of Famer Pat Miletich described that one to Matt Hughes, who put it in his book.
“Both their jackets come off, and Tito throws a left hook at Lee Murray and misses,” wrote Hughes. “And right as he missed, Lee Murray counters with, like, a five-punch combo, landed right on the chin, and knocked Tito out. OUT. Tito fell face-first down to the ground, and then Lee Murray stomped him on the face a couple of times with his boots.”
You can’t see the tape though, because Bobby Razak has the only copy, and he’s not showing it to you.
Now Tito Ortiz was apparently in another brawl at 4:00 in the morning on New Years, as first reported by Front Row Brian. Original reports were that Ortiz brawled outside of the Las Vegas nightclub Drai’s with a boxer, maybe a Mexican boxer, or maybe a boxer from FMJ’s camp.
However, MMA fighter David “Bionic” Terrel tells BE’s John S. Nash that it was him. Terrel says there was bad blood between the pair, noting they had been training partners, but had a falling out, with Terrel eventually joining Stephan Bonnar’s camp.
“To get in the club there’s this huge line around these ropes, so it’s really hard to get in. We had got in because we were getting a table, so we were inside the ropes.
“Tito shows up and he goes to the rope, opens the rope up – which you’re not supposed to do – and lets him and his group in. The host comes over and says ‘hey, you’re not supposed to do that.’ So he starts name-dropping himself, ‘I’m Tito Ortiz.’ And the two guys working there are ‘well you still can’t do that.’
“But Tito purposely did that to get next to me to try and punk me because we obviously don’t like each other.”
“So then [the nightclub’s staff] told him he had to go behind us because we were there first, so as he walks by me and I nod my head like ‘what’s up’ but I didn’t saying anything. He stopped and he said ‘motherf—er, don’t say what’s up to me.’”
“So I said “What’s up? You want to fight?” And then he swung on me.
“I slipped the punch and then fired on him with a right–left hook combo and I backed him up and then he swung. And it happened so fast. People started to grab him to break it up and then he tried to shake everyone off him and then he got cracked by someone else. And then I remember security was trying to take him down and I got behind him and grabbed him a round the neck. Kind of like I was going to get him in a rear naked but I didn’t put a choke on him. I pulled him to the ground and I said ‘Yo! Chill. Relax. Kick back.’ And then it stopped.
“A mutual friend of me and Tito told me to leave before the cops came. I remember looking back and seeing him with a big, bloody lump on his head.”
Hopefully some tape surfaces of this one.
