Weigh ins are miserable. All you want to do after a long camp is fight, but instead you have to drink lots of salty water, then drink nothing, then get in a tub of hot salty water with some alcohol in it, then wrap in towels. Rinse, repeat.

Thus it is no surprise that sometimes weigh ins blow up and descend into kisses and punches, head butts and shoves. However, at weigh ins for Friday’s Extreme Fighting Championship 52 in Cape Town, South Africa, Brazil’s Jadyson Costa blew up and did something a little different – he went for a takedown.

Costa got a leg up with single, but couldn’t complete, so looked for an outside trip, and finally switched to a double. However, at that point, a takedown would have taken down a near-solid mass of over half a dozen swirling people.

Opponent Don Madge, a former student of Costa’s, appeared amused.

“Tommorrow night, I’m going to assert my dominance,” said Madge. “As an athlete, and as a man. Upon him.”

*Yells at crowd*
*Exits, stage left*

Then it was Costa’s turn to talk some final trash.

“Expect a knockout. I will punch him so hard. That’s all I have to say right now,” said Costa, before saying more.

There was a little mic tug of war with the announcer, but Costa got in a final dig.

“He has no respect for nobody on his life,” said Costa in closing.

On the positive side, it does answer the question “who shoots a single at a weigh in?”

Jadyson Costa.
