On the Strikeforce conference call last week, Fedor was asked about which martial arts discipline was the best for MMA. This is how he answered:
“I understand how every fighter will probably say that his discipline is what he believes is best to prepare him for mixed martial arts, but I believe that Sambo is very unique in the fact that it’s the most well rounded style and discipline. And I believe it’s the best discipline to prepare one for certain things that he will encounter in his MMA fight. It helps with strength and in cases of wrestling with speed. In cases of stand up with explosiveness as well as throws in situations where that is necessary. So I strongly believe that of all the disciplines that exist for preparing someone for the sport, I’m confident that Sambo is the best.”
