Ivan Raupp and Raphael Marine Barueri from Brazilian media giant Globo broke the story that Glover Teixeira and Rashad Evans have verbally agreed to fight at UFC Fight Night 61 in Porto Alegre, Brazil on Sunday, February 22.

The UFC has defined what will be the main event of its first event in Porto Alegre. The major attraction of the card Feb. 22 at Gigantinho will be a meeting between the Brazilian Glover Teixeira and the American Rashad Evans for the light heavyweight category. The duel, not yet officially announced by the UFC, was confirmed by Combate.com from sources connected with the organization. There is a verbal agreement, and lacks only the signature of contracts.

Glover Teixeira has 22 wins and four losses in his career and is in a bad time within the organization. After losing to Jon Jones at 205, the Brazilian suffered a setback against Phil Davis at UFC Rio 5 in October this year. Before the two losses, he had from 20 consecutive wins.

Unlike Glover, Rashad Evans has had two straight wins, over Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen. However, he has not fought since November 2013 on account of a knee injuries. Now recovered, he hopes to get a third straight win.

Cezar Mutante and Sam Alvey will also be fighting at middleweight on the card.

Shortly afterwards, Teixeira’s manager Jorge Guimaraes said the fighter had not yet been medically cleared to compete by CABMMA, Brazil’s athletic commission. However, shortly after that the UFC announced that the bout was official, so it’s official.
