Rashad Evans has been fighting in the UFC for almost a decade, but recently admitted that he still gets nervous and even afraid before stepping in the Octagon:
Evans went on to describe the scene, during fight week at the host city in his hotel room, that repeats itself every time. His friends and family try to pump him up, promising him that he’s going to kick ass, while the fighter himself wonders what he’s gotten himself into.
“I’m thinking, like, ‘man, why do I do this? I’m like, ‘is it worth it?'”
According to Evans, there are different phases of fear, and then adjustment, leading up to a fight. “I get in different phases,” he began.
“Different sets of nervousness. I’m nervous when I get there. Then, I get used to being there. Ok, I’m cool. And then, it gets to the weigh-ins and I’m like, ‘Ok. I’m nervous, now I’m cool.’ And then it’s fight day and I’m nervous, then I’m cool. But when I walk out [to enter the Octagon] it’s like, ‘uh, might as well go for it.'”
