MADRID – Eurosport continues to expand its contact sports portfolio and today announced a new deal to offer Combate Global, the world’s premier Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) sports franchise, in Spain. Combate Global kicks off its 2022 season on Thursday, March 24. After securing the audiovisual rights to events such as UFC, Cage Warriors and the best boxing events, Eurosport reaffirms its position as The Home of Contact Sports in Spain by including Combate Global in its sports offering this season.
La Jaula, the Combate Global competition cage, opens on Thursday, March 24 on the Eurosport App, which will offer a total of 30 Combate Global events this year.
Underscoring its country vs. country format, Combate Global, led by CEO and UFC co-creator Campbell McLaren, has athletes representing numerous countries around the world facing off with each other throughout the year.
Each year culminates with Copa Combate, a one-night, eight-man tournament pitting fighters from eight different countries against each other, awarding its winner of three consecutive bouts a grand prize of $100,000.
In 2021, Spain’s Kevin Cordero represented his country brilliantly, reaching the championship stage of the Copa Combate bantamweight tournament before losing a close split decision to Frans Mlambo of Ireland.
The action kicks off on March 24 on the Eurosport App, with the first event headlined by a “Mexico vs. USA” showdown.
The current lineup includes:
- Daniel Sanchez vs. Angel Alvarez
- Melissa Amaya vs. Yessica Ortega
- Ruben Lozano vs. Jimmy Sandlin
- Miguel Villegas vs. Jake Childers
- Tyler Hinton vs. David Aguilar
- Ismael Zamora vs. Rick Zelada
- Yajaira Cunningham vs. Kayla Hracho
