Everything went good. The weight cut went very well. I have been training over at the Lab with John Crouch and a lot of the guys over there and they helped me and put me in the shape that I didn’t even suffer to cut weight so everything went pretty good.
We went in there and executed the game plan. Our game plan was to take him down and go on the ground and beat him up a little bit on the ground. But after we realized that we were beating him on our feet there was no need for us to take the risk and take it to the ground. So, the game plan was to get in there and make him respect our hands and that’s exactly what we did.
The first round he came out guns blazing. I knew he was going to come out hard and try to finish me in the first round because at weigh ins I saw that energy he was bringing in. I knew he was going to bring it stepping into the octagon so I knew that all that energy he had was sooner or later going to die down. The first round he came in and threw a perfect left that cut me over my left eye. It was a good hit but other than that, going in to the second round he seemed gassed, he seemed like he didn’t want to be in there so that’s why I wanted to hurt him a little bit and make him work, make him work, make him work.
I took that everything in my camp worked and I should keep working harder and harder. I learned that if I work hard it pays off in the cage and that’s exactly what I did. I worked my hands a lot and I learned a lot to stuff from this fight too. We watched the fight, and saw a couple mistakes I could have prevented and we saw a couple times where we could have finished the fight. But other than that we felt good, we stuck to a game plan and we executed and now it’s back to the drawing board. I’m going to put this one to the side, I got the win on my record and now we got to keep moving forward.
The discussion shifted to his opponent and I asked if anything surprised Efrain about his Lauzon.
Llike I said before we are good friends. I knew he was a heavy hitter and I knew he was going to come out guns blazing. I knew it was going to be a battle. But what did surprise me were all the rumors. I really hope Dany does start training back with his brother, I do hope the best for him. I know that Joe Lauzon is a well-rounded fighter and he’s a real talented fighter so he needs to go back in there and help his little brother you know. I think they have to settle their disputes and they just have to get back in there. Both of them
Danny is a good kid, he’s a good friend of mine and if he decided that he wants to come down and train with us at the Lab, he is more than welcome to come. I’m good friends with his older brother too, Joe, so I think it would be good. I actually want to go out there and train with his brother, so we’ll see what happens. Other than that, there are no hard feelings or anything, we just have to do our job and put the friendship aside. You don’t mix friendship with business.
