Rory MacDonald is a tremendous fighter, with a nickname that never resonated with the hardcore fanbase.

Ariel Helwani reports that going forward MacDonald will be known as “Red King.” He was so dubbed by lightweight fighter and fellow Canadian Kajan Johnson. The name Rory is of Irish and Scottish origin. It is an Anglicized form of the Irish Gaelic name Ruaidhrí/Ruairí which mean “red king.” So it fits.

Probably.

On a three fight win streak, Red King is in line for a title shot vs. the winner of Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler at UFC 181 on December 6.

Red King also got a mohawk.
