Doctors get Zombie’s shoulder back in place

The Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung was competitive with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo for three rounds Saturday nught at UFC 163, but in the fourth as he attempted to throw an overhand right, dislocated his shoulder. Jung tried to get his shoulder back in place to keep fighting.

Aldo was uncertain if Jung was playing possum, so he kicked the arm, twice, and determined it was indeed genuinely injured. Aldo then pounced, and the fight was stopped at the 2:00 minute mark.

Jung had shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff last Summer.

The comparison with TKZ’s marketing were impossible to miss.

The good news is at the post fight news conference, it was announced that doctors were able to get Jung’s arm back in place, and that rehab rather than surgery is all that is necessary.

“It was really painful when it first separated,’ said Jung through a translator at the UFC 163 post-fight fight conference. “But when they took us back to the medical room, they popped it back into place. Now it feels okay.”

“As far as the rematch goes, I would love to get a rematch. I would love to ask for a rematch, but I think there are other people that are waiting in line right now, and I probably have to get a couple more wins in the division before they’ll give me another shot at the title.”

Brian Shug Rhee later told FOX Sports that TKZ also suffered a broken eye orbit in the bout. Jung is expected to visit specialists for both his shoulder and eye by the end of the week, and should have more information about his prognosis at that point.
