DJ: Public quarrel with White was misunderstanding
Demetrious Johnson: “I don’t think it’s fair when you have two grown men bicker on the f@$%ing Internet. … We’ll end up like Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian.”

Demetrious Johnson, the best greatest pound for pound fighter in mixed martial arts, and his boss UFC president Dana White have been in a bitter Twitter quarrel. Johnson does not believe the league is adequately promoting him, and White is incensed that Johnson would not take an immediate title defense with former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, who was willing to drop down to flyweight.
However, during a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, Mighty Mouse attributed the disagreement to a misunderstanding. Johnson says he and White will meet during UFC 214 fight week and sort out their differences face to face.
I don’t think it’s fair when you have two grown men bicker on the f***ing Internet, said Johnson , as transcribed by Dave Doyle for MMA Fighting. You know what I mean? We’ll end up like Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian. Grown men, they sit down and talk about it, and that’s what we’re going to do in two weeks.
It was just a big misunderstanding and we’re going to meet with Dana White. Dana White’s a grown-ass man, I am too, he’s got kids, I got kids, we’re going to sit down and get on the same level and go from there and see what options we have.
Johnson is that rare star athlete who lives comfortably but frugally, well within his long-term means. He has not employed a manager for much of his career, repying instead on his own good judgment as well as that of his coach Matt Hume, who may well know more about mixed martial arts than anyone alive. He recently with Malki Kawa who also represents Jon Jones, among others.
Me and Matt both felt it was time to be managed by, to get a manager, you know what I mean? It’s time in my career to bring in somebody who’s going to focus on that part of business, so me and Matt can focus on what we do best, which is get ready for the fight,” said Johnson. “Matt’s always been a great manager and helped me get ready for my fight and is one of my main training partners, now it’s time to put that responsibility on somebody else.
Johnson is now following some immediate advice from Kawa and his First Round Management – don’t rush. Johnson is currently recovering from a stem-cell medical procedure on his hand.
They’re ‘You’re always in a rush to fight,” he said. “You’re always fighting, fighting, fighting. You fight three times in 2013, you fought three times in 2014. You just f***ing fought in April. So relax, let your hand heal, and that way when you’ll have your best performance when you’re going up against the record, this record will probably never be broken again. So let’s relax, let’s get through this, let your body heal, let your hand heal, and we’ll go from there.’
So Johnson will relax, but only a little.
I’m fighting this year,” he said. “There’s money to be made, and I want mine.
Johnson is currently tied with Anderson Silva for most successful UFC title defenses, with 10. With that, Johnson begins to edge into consideration as greatest fighter ever in the league.
