According to multiple reports, a fight is being made between #1 bantamweight contender T.J. Dillashaw and #2 contender John Linker. The bout will take place at the return of Ronda Rousey, UFC 207 on December 30, 2016, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Brazil’s Lineker is 4-0 since moving up from flyweight last year after he failed to make weight vs. Ian McCall. Lineker won a fight of the night and a performance of the night during his latest run, but did once again fail to make weight in his last fight, a split decision over John Dodson on October 1.
The UFC 207 co-main is bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz vs. the #6 contender Cody Garbrandt, who is undefeated at 10-0.
Dillashaw lost his belt to Cruz in January via split decision and then bounced back with a decision win over Raphael Assuncao in July. He had been bitter that he did not get the title shot, calling the Cruz vs. Garbrandt fight a mockery of the sport.”
Why does #6 get to fight for a world title when he beat #11?, said Dillashaw to Jamie Hammond for FanSided. He hasn’t beaten anybody in the top 5.
This sport should be about the best guys on the planet [fighting each other]. What’s the point in having rankings?
I blame Dominick Cruz and the UFC for letting this happen.”
I think it also comes down to the obliviousness of our fans. They see Cody Garbrandt knock out #Mizugaki and think he’s the almighty.”
However, the winner of Dillashaw vs. Lineker will in all likelihood get a shot at the winner of Cruz vs. Garbrandt.
