At the post-fight press conference UFC 196, Nate Diaz was asked if he thought his size or weight was a factor in his win over Conor McGregor. Diaz explained that he felt it wasn’t a factor and it was simply the better martial artist:

I knew I was the superior boxer, the superior martial artist, the superior jiu-jitsu – like I said from the beginning, I have the best training partners in the world in every aspect, Diaz told MMAjunkie at the post-fight press conference. Boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu and MMA, so nothing surprised me except that I got hit at all. I think with a full camp I would have been flawless, but it’s whatever. I’m not surprised.

The weight had nothing to do with anything. I had to lose some weight. If I had to fight at 155 I felt like I could have performed better because I would have been on point, I would have had the sparring and I would have had a good weight cut like I did my last fight. I had to come into this fight straight fat-boy-off-the-beach-in-Cabo, but it’s all good. I won because I’m the superior martial artist.
