Today Nick Diaz finally stood before the Nevada Athletic Commission to face a failed drug test following his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 183. In a shocking decision, the commission levied one of the steepest financial penalties it has in MMA and suspended the fighter from competing for five years:
The verdict was passed unanimously at a hearing in Las Vegas.
The suspension is retroactive to Jan. 31.
Diaz was also fined 33% of his $500,000 fight purse.
Diaz, 32, will be 36 years old when allowed to return to competition.
