The new UFC Reebok sponsorship requires that fighters appear exclusively in Reebok apparel in the Octagon and during fight week. Of particular concern is displaying another brand at weigh-ins, press conferences, open workouts, or in the fight. The UFC revealed recently that three fighters at UFC on FOX 17 on December 19, 2015, received reductions on their Reebok payments for knowingly and seriously violating the policy.
This was the first time the step had been taken.
Now Nate Diaz has volunteered that he was one of the fighters in question.
Nathan Diaz @NateDiaz209
Those were #reebokjeans u should’ve just kept the whole check I don’t need that baby ass shit anyway .. #1000
The amount of the reduction was not announced, but another fighter who volunteered that he was one of the policy violators, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, said it was not trivial.
Cowboy Cerrone @Cowboycerron
Let’s just say a LOT. Think of a number then double it
Cerrone’s violation was reportedly for a Budweiser patch. Diaz’s was for wearing his Represent line at various points during fight week, and drinking from a Represent bottle during the post fight press conference.
