“They do this to me every press conference,” White joked with UFC matchmakers Joe Silva and Sean Shelby when questioned by MMAjunkie.com as to whether Brian Bowles would be next in line to snag a shot at the 135-pound belt,. “They want me to make the whole next card.”
“Could be Demetrious Johnson” replied Shelby, the matchmaker responsible for booking the UFC’s featherweight and bantamweight matchups.
Bowles appeared to injure his hand again during his Saturday night win over Mizugaki, but White seemed optimistic that the former WEC champ may have actually escaped unscathed.
Meanwhile, the 5-foot-3 Johnson, often referred to as a future champion of the soon-to-come flyweight division, has been doing just fine at 135 pounds. Johnson is dealing with his own health problems after suffering a fractured fibula in his May win over Torres, though he is set to ask for doctors’ clearance later this month.
So in short, the answer to what’s next for Cruz isn’t clear just yet.
