DC vs. Bones confirmed, event marred by scuffle and cocaine claim
“I beat you after a weekend of cocaine,” bragged Jon Jones in arguably the worst retort in UFC history.
UFC Summer Kickoff Press Conference at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas kicked off with some good news – light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones was official for UFC 214 on July 29, 2017 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The bout was a long time in the making. Jones beat a challenge by Cormier at UFC 182 in January 2015. Then Jones lost his title due to character issues, and Cormier won the title. A title fight was planned for UFC 197 last year, but Cormier withdrew due to a leg injury, and Jones ended up defeated Ovince Saint Preux for the Interim title. Then a unification fight was planned for UFC 200 in July, but Jones failed an anti-doping test after he took a tainted, bootleg, erectile dysfunction drug.
So the fight being official is good news. The rest of the interaction between the two was not so good. Cormier questioned whether Jones would even show.
“Is this guy gonna mess this up again by doing steroids or snorting cocaine or sandblasting prostitutes?” asked Cormier, according to MMAFighting.
“Will he be in Anaheim?” asked Cormier, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “Or will he do cocaine?”
Then Jones offered arguably the worst retort in UFC history.
“I beat you after a weekend of cocaine,” he bragged.
Cormier went after Jones apparently over remarks Bones made about DC’s children.
Even the faceoff was aborted when Jones showed up with a belt.

Jones and Cormier genuinely don’t like each other, and bad blood puts asses in seats. But bragging about cocaine use is beneath even pro wrestlers, and should be beneath mixed martial artists, too.
And what does sand blasting prostitutes even mean? And who would even want to know?
