DC: Fighters who doped are disqualified from the G.O.A.T. conversation

Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France seven years in a row. That may make him the greatest tour rider of all time. Instead, he’s in the A$$hole Hall of Fame, because it is established that he used performance-enhancing drugs. The UFC recently suggested that with a win over heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier should be in consideration as the Greatest of All Time.

That suggestion irked Jon Jones who suggested if DC is the GOAT, the Jones must be the GOATiest. Two times Jones saw his hand raised vs. Cormier. However, the most recent was changed to a No Contest as Turinabol was found in Jones’ system. And the first loss has been overwhelmed to a degree by the dump that is Jon Jones’ life choices.

During a UFC 226 media conference call on Thursday, Cormier said Jones is disqualified from the conversation. DC went further, suggesting that the UFC G.O.A.T. Anderson Silva was likewise not worthy of consideration.

Any time a guy does performance-enhancing drugs and on multiple occasions, they eliminate themselves, said Cormier, as transcribed by Damon Martin for MMA Weekly. So for as great as Anderson Silva was, he tested positive I think two times. Jones has tested positive two or three times. Those guys eliminate themselves.

When you start getting performance enhancers tied to your name, there’s no way around that. There’s no way around it, and I think that of all the sports, the people that pay the harshest price are the baseball players. Because when you have negatives tied to your name, they deny you the ultimate vindication. The ultimate goal of a baseball player is to go to the Hall of Fame and these guys aren’t even getting close.

The Mark McGwire’s, the Sammy Sosa’s, the Barry Bonds — those guys aren’t getting close because they have those bad things tied to their names. As a sport, I think MMA needs to evolve to the point that the punishment for having done those things is your place within the sport should be challenged and should be questioned.

And Cormier said with a win, his name is in the conversation.

I think I am,” said Cormier. “I don’t believe that anything else should be thought of. I should be in the conversation. I want to be mentioned among the greats. The Georges St-Pierres and the Demetrious Johnsons, the guys that have done things the correct way over the course of their entire careers without that asterisk.
