A late injury has forced Mac Danzig off the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Austin, TX on Sept. 15. In to replace him will be “Ultimate Fighter” season 8 winner Efrain Escudero, who steps in to face Matt Wiman as the co-main event of the night.
Escudero was already set to compete on the card against John Gunderson, but a late injury to Danzig opened up a slot in the co-main event and the Arizona based fighter has been tapped as a replacement.
Matt Wiman was scheduled to face Danzig in a rematch of the bout the two had in June that ended in controversial fashion. Wiman had a guillotine choke on Danzig, and referee Yves Lavigne stopped the bout thinking Danzig was unconscious, but he never was.
Due to the controversy, the UFC put together a rematch, but it looks like Danzig will have to wait for his chance to avenge the loss.
