This isn’t (expletive) baseball or one of these other sports, White said at a gathering of reporters after Saturday’s UFC 108. Sometimes these guys hate each other. When you break a guy’s arm that you hate, flip him off, and let him know you’re glad you broke his arm, I guess, it happens sometimes.
It’s not the greatest sportsmanship, but, ‘oh, that guy is terrible, he’s a horrible man and he shouldn’t fight anymore,’ this is the fight business, man. Crazy stuff happens in the fight business sometimes.
White reminded reporters that the Japanese star’s behavior was not the norm, even in such a crazy business. Aside from a few well-inked issues – Steve Cantwell crowing over Razak Al-Hussan’s broken arm; Dan Henderson’s satisfaction over his Tomahawk-chop of Michael Bisping; Lesnar’s post-fight chew-out of Frank Mir; and on Saturday, Paul Daley’s knockout celebration over Dustin Hazelett – the post-fight behavior of athletes has been mostly harmless.
Ninety percent of these guys are real classy and do the right thing, White said. I was happy with the Paul Daley interview after the fight. He was cool, and then he came in here and (expletive) it all up, but he was great after the fight.
