Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has come down from as high as 230 to fight at 170. When he failed to make weight at UFC 142 on Friday by an unprecedented eleven pounds over the 186-pound cutoff, there was intense fan curiosity at what he was going to be when he actualy stepped into the Octagon.
UFC President Dana White accomodated, tweeting that Vitor Belfort weighed in at 205.6 pounds while Johnson was 211, meaning he would not have made weight for the next division up.
“This one was so controversial, and I played the whole behind-the-scenes of how it went down and what happened, which we’ve never done before,” said White, who covered the weigh-in fiasco in his video blog and via Twitter.
Prior to the start of Saturday’s pay-per-view event, White tweeted that Belfort weighed 205.6 pounds while Johnson was 211.
“I knew people would be curious about the weights,” said White. “And had I not, people would have thought he weighed 230 tonight. You see how big he was?”
There has been a long-time UG campaign for “fight-night weights” to be added to the tale of the tape. White is aware of the interest, but presently has no plans to institute an entirely new procedure.
“Right now? No,” he said. “There are no plans.”
