The Quebec Athletic Commission’s legal team is bogged down in paperwork and still hasn’t addressed Paul Daley’s suckerpunch at UFC 113.
Michael Hamelin, the QAC’s commissioner, said it could take another “month to a month-and-a-half” to decide whether to punish the welterweight for his actions at the May 8 event, in which he slugged Josh Koscheck after the final bell.
Hamelin said that the QAC submitted a report on the incident, though it hasn’t been reviewed because QAC lawyers also handle cases for the office under which the commission operates, the Régie des Alcools des Courses et des Jeux. That office also oversees the Canadian province’s alcohol and gaming industry in addition to the QAC.
“Especially during the summer we have a lot of different cases,” Hamelin said. “That’s why we [have the delay].”
“For me, the whole incident has become a bit insignificant,” Daley told Sherdog.com. “Before I got to the UFC, I was doing just fine. My name was out there; I was fighting top guys. Everyone’s goal is to be with the UFC, and I feel like I did myself justice. I made a mistake, but there’s still paychecks out there.”
Daley added that he wasn’t quite sold on the idea that White wouldn’t have him back.
“Dana is a volatile character,” Daley said. “I think when he said that, he did really mean it. But, I know Dana likes money, and I’m going to keep bringing in fans. Somewhere down the line, he might want me back.”
