Cyborg responds to White belief she can make 135

UFC president Dana White appeared recently on the Skip And Shannon: Undisputed podcast, and was asked about the greatest fighter in women’s MMA, Cris Cyborg.

“What about Cyborg, are we going to see her fight more in the UFC?” asked Shannon Sharpe at the 9:23 mark. “I think everybody wants to see her and Ronda Rousey fight.”

White replied positively.

“Definitely,” replied the UFC boss. “And Ronda’s never said she doesn’t want to fight Cyborg. It’s the exact opposite – she wants to fight her. A lot of people. Miesha Tate said she wants to fight her. Holly Holm said she wants to fight her. It’s just a matter of what weight are they going to fight at. Because she’s at 145 pounds. These girls fight at 135 pounds. So they’d have to work something out where they meet in the middle at 140.”

Sharpe then asked if White thought Cyborg could make 135.

“I do think she could, yah,” said White.

Sharpe then asked White why Cyborg didn’t want to take the fight at 135?

“She doesn’t want to cut that much weight,” replied White. “She would rather stay closer to 45, than go down to 135. I’ve talked to guys who worked with her in helping her cut weight. And they say she could absolutely make 135 pounds.”

Cyborg says absolutely she cannot make 135, and posted this video to her social network in response.

Ronda Rousey fights UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on December 30, 2016, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rousey has said she is winding her career down, so planning the biggest fight in WMMA history has to happen sooner rather than later.
