The main event of UFC 222 featured women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg defend her title against former Invicta champion Yana Kunitskaya.
Yana Kunitskaya gave it everything she had at UFC 222. But it wasn’t nearly enough.
The Invicta bantamweight champion went up a weight class to challenge Cris Cyborg on short notice for the UFC featherweight championship on Saturday night.
But after finding early success, Cyborg proved once again why she’s considered by so many the greatest women’s fighter of all-time. Cyborg turned up the heat after an awkward start and earned the knockout victory. The time of the stoppage at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was 3:25 of the opening round.

She goes to the body, as well, but Kunitskaya drops down and is able to get Cyborg to the floor. Cyborg turns her back and stands, and Kunitskaya stays right her, trying to wrap the neck. Cyborg able to turn inside, and Kunitskaya presser her against the cage. Kunitskaya looking for another takedown. Cyborg trying to work her arms inside. Kunitskaya with a few knees to the body. Cyborg with a crossface. She’s trapped right now. Knees traded inside. Kunitskaya in deep on a single-leg, but Cyborg defending well against the fence. Cyborg finally gets her arms inside and pushes away. Big right hand hurts Kunitskaya. Cyborg licks her on the ground but pulls away. Kunitskaya stands. Another right hand lands. Another, and Kunitskaya hits the floor. Cyborg goes to finish. Kunitskaya tries to get her legs in and push away, but Cyborg is just punching away. Shot after shot after shot, and referee Herb Dean has to call it.
